It's Back For Its Sixth Amazing Year...
Friday 1st August - Sunday 3rd August 2008
Black Barn House, Chalk Road, Walpole St Peter, PE14 7PN.
WHAT IS IT?
The Madhouse Summer Minicon is a yearly event over a long
weekend which brings together Madhouse players and GMs old and new, plus their
friends and family, for the gamesfest to end all gamefests.
Starting on Friday evening the Minicon allows a gathering of keen
gamers to play board games, card games, roleplaying games and pretty
much any other sort of game throughout the day and into the very
small hours of the morning.
On top of this, the Minicon features many organised events
including the Friday Night Curry Extravaganza, The Saturday
DungeonWorld Tabletop, Andy London's infamous Saturday
Night Play, the BIG Saturday Night Event, Pool Games in the
Guest Houses heated swimming pool, and MORE MORE MORE...
No self-respecting Madhouse player who can conceivably make it
to the Minicon should miss the chance to have a GREAT weekend!
If you've been before, don't miss this year's con. If you've never
been before... DON'T MISS THIS YEARS CON. You'll be kicking
yourself forever.
The Theme
This year the Minicon is superhero Themed, although it should
be remembered that the theme is just a bit of fun and
does not colour the events of the whole weekend.
We encourage all attendees to choose a superhero
or supervillain name and to bring a single 'prop'
(mask, cloak, hydrogen powered energy battery,
magic lantern, whatever...) for occasional use as
part of the fun, but participation in the theme
is not *absolutely* necessary so if superheroes
aren't your thing, don't let it worry you, there's lots
more stuff going on!
Impossible Crisis Special Event
Throughout the weekend
we will be running a free game called 'Impossible Crisis'
which will allow players to control a superhero or a supervillain
of their choosing and try to survive a catastrophic
world- and time-spanning event that will cause even the
most established superhero to need to renumber their
issues at #1,
kill off a sidekick, die and then be reborn
with a new theme tune, or possibly even become
ruler of the known world (albeit briefly.) If you have no idea
what on earth this all means, don't worry! Just bring a desire
to have a laugh and get ready for some fun!
Saturday Night Medieval Banquet
The BIG Saturday night event, which is usually the highlight
of the weekend and the event in which everybody gets involved
is the Saturday Night Medieval Banquet. This is a Bereny (the Kingdom
in which the game of DungeonWorld is centered) -themed evening.
The premise: A race of underwater monsters has petitioned the Crown to
allow them security in the Kingdom and to remove their status as
monsters. A grand banquet is being held to discuss the matter and
to meet leaders of the strange race. But there are other powers-that-be
who wish to skew events for their own purposes. Powerful guilds.
An ancient group of loreseekers. A Giant Metal Man.
Throw
a deadly monstrous leader and an infamous undead Lord Crusader
into the mix and you've got Trouble with a Capital 'T'.
Fancy Dress is highly-recommended. This is a story-based
themed event in which all those taking part (usually everybody attending)
will take the part of characters from the DungeonWorld land of Bereny.
You can play an actual character you control from the game if you want to, but bear
in mind that things that happen at the meal can be reflected in the game.
If you prefer to play it safe, or don't play DungeonWorld, then we will provide
a character for you to play when you arrive or you can just pick one
yourself and play it for the event only.
There is an additional cost which includes all the food
and all the beer and wine you can drink (should you choose to)
the cost is £12.00 per person.
BOOK EARLY
The on-site rooms tend to fill-up and sell out very quickly every year
so to avoid disapppointment... BOOK RIGHT AWAY!
THE IMPORTANT SMALL PRINT **PLEASE READ**
The Summer Minicon has limited spaces and once a room is booked
and filled we often have to turn others away from their booking
of it. Consequently, if you book a Minicon Room you will
be expected to pay for it even if you don't turn up for the Con.
Cancellations are not accepted in any form or for any reason.
Once you send a booking request and are confirmed
that's that! Please bear this in mind and only book if you
are SURE you are going to make it and accept that you will
still have to pay, even if you do not.
