What Does It Cost?
There are two ways to play Kyr; Freeplay, or Commercial Play. Whichever way you choose you will still be playing in the same consistent world as everybody else, using the same rules.
FreePlay
The only limitation with Freeplay is that you can only play a single adventurer character and you cannot have any chargeable sub-characters (things like Camels, or Slaves). If you want to play multiple characters, or if you wish to try a special position like a Peasant Settlement Position, you would need to move to commercial play. You cannot be both a Freeplay and a Commercial Player. However, if you choose to open a Commercial Position later, you can include your freeplay character in it, so it will not be lost. Freeplay, as you would imagine by its name, costs absolutely nothing. It is completely acceptable to have a freeplay Kyr Position and also a Freeplay DungeonWorld position and even a Freeplay Brokenlands position. So you can quite conceivably run three different single characters in three different areas of the DungeonWorld Game, completely for free. We would encourage you, if you enjoy the game, to move to some sort of commercial position at some point, of course.
Commercial Play
Commercial Play-By-Mail and Play-By-Email games, when compared to other similar hobbies, are very reasonable. But we do need to eat <grin>. The costs to play Commercial Kyr are shown below. All costs are in UK Pounds Stirling. Madhouse UK handle players from everywhere in the world!
Turn Fees
Kyr is priced in the same way as the main DungeonWorld
game.
There is a £1.00 Base Cost per position, plus
50p per main character and 10p per sub-character.
Hence, a standard starting 2-character position is £2.00
a turn (£1.00 Base Turn fee + 2 x 50p)
Additional Characters
You can sign up additional adventuring characters any
time you like, up to the 10-main characters per position
limit. They cost £2.00 to set-up and then the
usual 50p per turn to run. They can only be set-up in
a valid starting position. These include Town and City
Markets, on the entrance to any city on the overland
map, or on a Djinn Trader square near to one of your
existing characters. You cannot start up a new character
outside of the Empire of Kyr for a Kyr position. If
you want to start adventuring in Bereny then you need
to start a separate Bereny position to do so. (By all
means do so!) <grin>
