Guild Upgrade Rules
Guild Upgrades are one of the key things which set
official and unofficial guilds apart. As an official
guild continues its activities in the game it will gradually
accrue 'upgrade points' which can be spent once every
three months in an official "upgrade period"
as announced by the GMs on additional in-game elements
specifically pertaining to the guild and its members.
Alternatively, if the guild does not spend its points
then they will be saved for the next upgrade period.
Guilds gain upgrade points in several ways as follows;-
Standard Award
3 points are automatically gained at every new upgrade
period as long as the guild has met each and every one
of the responsibilities as shown under the "guild
responsibilities" rules. If even one of the responsibilities
is not fully met the entire three point award is negated.
There is no leeway on this.
Newsletters
1 point is gained every time the guild publishes a DW
game-based newsletter which is sent to all members either
by post or email (as required by the member.) To qualify
for the bonus the newsletter must be made available
to all members, regardless of play medium or world location.
It must also feature new material not previously published
and must be at least two pages long. Newsletters which
are padded and offer little real content will be seen
for what they are and disallowed. To qualify for the
bonus a hard-printed copy of the newsletter must be
posted to the UK GMs. The GMs reserve the right to award
1-4 additional points if the newsletter is especially
impressive, chunky, colourful, or whatever.
Special Activity Awards
The GMs reserve the right to award additional upgrade
points for certain game activities, or outstanding contributions
to gameplay. These awards are never given on
application, so don't ask for them or expect them. Indeed,
actually asking for an activity award, no matter how
subtly, will automatically void any chance of receiving
one. These awards are the result of very special and
unusual game contributions by a guild as a whole, not
by an individual character. Normal activity for guild
purposes only, no matter how impressive, will never
result in an Activity Award. The completion of quests
and suchlike do not qualify for special activity awards.
Roleplay Awards
Each upgrade period two guilds maybe awarded 2 additional
points as a Roleplay Award if they are seen to have
distinguished themselves. This reward will be the result
of impressive roleplay by the guild leaders, and its
members, on the email discussion lists, on the player
noticeboard of each turn, in the Surgery Newsletter,
at Madhouse Minicons, in the Madhouse chatroom if a
GM is present, and in any other public forums that may
become available. The GMs may make this award themselves,
or may ask certain players or guilds to offer candidates
on occasions. These awards are for fun and are special
extras. "Sour Grapes" from guilds who do not
get them will result in that guild being automatically
removed from the selection process on the next upgrade
period.
Website Award
Any guild running a website which promotes their guild,
and also the DungeonWorld game as a whole, gains an
additional point per Upgrade Period. If the website
is significantly updated during the three months leading
up to the Upgrade Period this will gain yet another
point. Consequently, regularly updated websites are
a good way to extra points. In order to qualify for
these points Madhouse must be notified of the website
address so a link can be made from Madcentral, an email
must be sent to Madhouse if and when the site is significantly
upgraded, and the site must also include a link back
to Madcentral and details about the DungeonWorld game
as a whole.
