Guild Types : Official vs UnOfficial
Guilds in DungeonWorld represent alliances,
organisations and the like, formed by adventures for
a common goal, interest or aim. There are presumed to
be hundreds of non-adventurer guilds formed by common
folk as well for more mundane reasons but these are
not within the scope of the game.
UnOfficial - All the fun ... less of the commitment!
An UnOfficial guild can be formed by anybody at any
time with no need to contact the GMs. Somebody announcing
that they are "The Falcons of Everheart" and
calling for people to join them need not be 'official',
nor the "Merry Men Of Ghorst" who drink foaming
beer and sing bawdy songs while slaying goblins. If
you are interested in forming a guild or alliance you
should give serious thought to running it unofficially,
either forever, or for a trial period. It will give
you a good idea as to whether you can handle the workload
and responsibilities of a full official guild. Unofficial
guilds can have just as much impact and
Official Guilds - Part Of The Mechanics Of The Game!
Official guilds are a very different beast. They involve
a lot of work to set-up for the GMs and have many in-game
programmed elements specifically and only for them.
Due to this, the requirements to set up an official
guild are quite stringent, and the commitments required
of the guild leaders to keep the guild running are both
time-consuming and ongoing. Given that many other players
will be relying on you to provide them with support
and leadership, not just for a few turns, but potentially
for several years, you should only proceed with setting
up an official guild if you are certain you will be
playing for the long term and if you have no other commitments
which may limit your time and ability to run the guild
effectively. An Official Guild can be a whole lot of
fun, but its no simple task and you should go into it
knowing what you are letting yourself in for!
