About The Setting

The Fall Of Man

Earth, the birthworld, is gone. Utterly destroyed many thousands of years ago in some long-forgotten war, its location
forgotten, its name little more than legend.

Fractured by many devastating interstellar wars, genetic, robotic and territorial, the human race is a shadow of its former self,
its technology in disarray, its history a mass of scrambled data files and ancient tales.

The vast galactic maps are lost, the knowledge of the void that Man had achieved nothing more than a hazy memory.
Thousands of years of expansion and learning wiped out by greed and folly.

Cowering on just a few 'civilised' worlds, mankind has fallen far from its once-lofty peaks. Its immense space fleets, towering
corporations and terrible war machines long gone. Its science and technology rendered inoperable, forcing a new period of
discovery and innovation.

The Earth Central Government (ECG), which once dominated huge tracts of space with its might, power and influence, is now a
collection of bumbling bureaucrats on High Earth, trying to re-ignite space exploration after the dark years following the The Realignment.

Rebirth

Yet some few men and women refuse to sit idly by while the human race drift quietly into obscurity. Harvesting the remaining
space technology they begin to spread out once more; carrying cargo between planets as they forge new trade deals, taking
colonists to strange new worlds, building vessels and warships into new fleets, exploring new areas, seeking out new civilisations.

Perhaps much has been lost, but these intrepid folk, driven by ambition, courage and a lust for adventure, plan to regain it all.
Whether they will succeed or not is unknown. Only time will tell.

The Game

The Universe of Destiny is set in the far, far distant future. Mankind, having once reached an immense level of power,
has been humbled and brought down.

But Destiny is a game about the future, not the past. Whatever has gone before, Mankind has found its spirit once more.
Tentatively reaching out, they begin to explore space anew, rebuilding their influence and power, starting new colonies,
starting a new era of expansion and growth.

From a player's point of view you can see that this setting allows for a fair amount of technology to be used because it has been
salvaged from what it lost, but still leaves current space and new technology to be explored. This creates a dynamic game environment
where exploration and discovery are the keywords.
